In April, we competed in the 2017 ASCE North Central Student Conference regional steel bridge competition. We placed second overall and qualified for the National Student Steel Bridge Competition, which will be held at Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR on May 26-27. We placed first in aesthetics and did not receive any dimensional penalties, which was a major goal for the team this year. We were also successful in increasing our structural efficiency over last year’s bridge.
We are currently preparing to travel to Oregon in a few weeks, and are getting the bridge ready for competition. We are looking forward to the chance to improve our score at nationals, as we received a penalty during the construction phase at regionals, so we are hoping to have an even better showing this time around.
Thanks to everyone for your support this season! We wouldn’t have made it this far otherwise, and we are excited to continue to compete at the national level. Go Blue Steel!
